The second "Toyotamahime Exhibition" will be held for one week starting on Thursday, September 5th.
As she is both a dragon god and the goddess of pearls, we have changed the character "tama" (jewel) in the title of Toyotamahime to "tama" (jewel) to give a stronger impression of pearls.
The participating artists are four women with ties to Okinawa.
Please enjoy the "Toyotamahime Exhibition," featuring works by these women who love the sea.
To recap, Toyotamahime is the daughter of the sea god who lives in Ryugu-jo Palace, and is said to have originally had the form of a dragon.
She married Hiori no Mikoto (Yamasachihiko), who appears in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, and conceived a child.
Toyotamahime had a secret that caused her to transform into a dragon at this very mysterious moment of childbirth.
Princess Toyotama refused to be present because she did not want to be seen...
In a collaborative exhibition with sculptor Ai Sano held in June, Toyotamahime's feelings of not wanting her true self, which she had kept secret from her husband, were expressed. What kind of work will she produce this time?
Please check the profiles and works of the participating artists on their Instagram accounts.
